For more depth, you may also want to add a clear topcoat or two. Preval sprayer and professional automotive paint. I've used these for years. Available at many auto parts stores, you have a small glass bottle for holding paint and a disposable propellant cylinder with a liquid pickup.
These little units will give you a professional result, using professional paint. The downside, is that you will probably have to spring for a pint of paint, plus hardener and reducer, but the result is very nice.
These units are available from hobby stores and are like a bigger version of the Preval sprayer. With a good quality paint, they also make a very professional looking job. And if you can find the right color, you can buy a good, small batch of synthetic enamel that will work, if you don't want to use automotive paint.
After giving the paint a day or two to dry and cure, you can safely put the pieces of your air cleaner restoration back together and on the car. Assuming you car is running, the heat from the engine will do a nice job of baking the paint into a good, hard finish, which will last for years!

LarryM42 Yes there is look on the drivers door plate, there should be codes for body style, interior, and exterior color date built, DSO, axel, and trans, on that one plate. Post them and I will gladly look them up for you, no problem.

They discontinued that motor, and offered a ci for, just like the ci for White exterior with blue and white interior. I believe the floor carpet? Headliner and dash were blue. Seats were white leather?
It was pretty but hard to keep clean. There was no cable on the gas cap so it got stolen a lot. The burgundy Mustang I bought later solved the gas cap problem by attaching a steel braided cable to cap and car body. They produced of the Indy Pace cars - 2 for each statem.
The dealers had contests, etc. We bought it in Tampa. It did have 3 blue racing stripes vinyl tape - not paint. I was 17 and thought I was hot stuff. It was wrecked by a fraternity brother in I'm sure there are countless variations of trim and options on this old cars, but as we all know, what makes it interesting is the vast discrepancies within the same model year.
One question tho, the original hood has a small hit on the front and some letters missing with the correct numbers stamped on the left underside, so I bought another original 64 hood to replace it and now the numbers don't match; does that significantly take away from the car?

Both of these models were available with a cid horsepower 6 cylinder engine, a 2-V horsepower V-8, a V horsepower V-8, and beginning in June, a powerful 4 barrel, solid lifter, cid horsepower V-8 engine.

A Guru expert can make a educated guess at best. Oh and let's call them early or pre-production Mustangs built before the regular production run. Everyone's opinions are different.
I like to separate them by their generators and engine codes, F, D, U and late K. If a generator has been removed, it can still be verified by the 3 extra louvers in front of the battery.
I would classify a early built A code as just that. The early K codes would only be made in July and part of August, so would be very few. I would guess less than 5, Mike, you should read some of my past posts. There was a few made after that, but none of them where fastbacks???
I have a few more, but i'll leave it up to you to find!!! A lot of the items you mention could be running changes, eg. A code with early hood and head light buckets doesn't make it a "early model". Left over hoods can be found on A, C even T codes.
I do agree that it's all about the build date. But the left over parts where used on 65's to use them up. Shawn answered about a year ago. I have just read all of this and I seem to have a late production 65 convertable.

I added it to the exclusion list, rebooted, then tried to run CCleaner. First the process ccleaner. Even though the process was listed, it still took about 45 seconds for CCleaner to actually appear on my screen, after which the "Analyze" and: I closed CCleaner and clciked the icon agan.
As I've run the scans, I've noticed the three places it seems to go the slowest is when cleaning Firefox, cleaning Google Chrome, and cleaning Taskbar Jump Lists. Ok I have an idea for your perceived slow start based on your last post.
Right click the shortcut you use to open cclean and choose properties. Unzip the Portable version over the previous Portable version of CC; or. Install the Installer version over the previous version of CC.
If you really downloaded over the previous version of CC that would totally corrupt the old version,. I have to rename CCleaner If you used the Installer version then perhaps that has a bug and thought it was installing under a 32 bit system and so it fixed the start-target wrongly.
Perhaps I used the wrong terminology. I downloaded the ccleaner. However, since this all started I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled CCleaner twice.
Have you tried saving the settings to INI file. This would remove all settings from the registry and save them to an INI file in the CCleaner folder, making the program portable. If that doesn't help, try going back one version to 4.
You can install it over the top of the current version. Last night I ran a scan before turning off my computer, and it ran quickly. Then this morning I tried to run a scan, and it was slow. With the old version 4.
Second scan, it opened quickly and took just a few seconds to clean 2MB. This seems to hold with what I wrote above in this post--sometimes it will run quickly, but mostly it is slow.
Thanks again to everyone for trying to help me with this. I'm beginning to think I may just have to deal with a slow CCleaner. Since you weren't having any problems until around the 29th of October, I'd look at any new programs or updates to existing programs.

If you've been thinking about restoring a Classic Mustang, or any other vehicle yourself, and you're not sure what it takes, an air cleaner is a great way to learn the ropes. The first step in air cleaner restoration, is degreasing and cleaning off all the old oil, grease and loose rust.
The picture above shows what this Ford Mustang air cleaner assembly looked like right off the car. Mine had a lot of surface rust, chipped paint and lots of dried grease, mixed with dirt on the underside.
This classic Mustang air cleaner is composed of three different sections. The main body, lid, snorkel, heat exchanger tube. Take the extra few minutes and separate the pieces from each other. This will not only make removing the old grease easier, it also makes rust and paint removal easier.
Here you have a couple of choices in your air cleaner restoration. Either, start by removing as much original paint as possible with a good paint stripper and brushing off the old paint.
It's a great choice if there is little or no surface rust, which means you can skip right to sealing and painting. If like my Mustang air cleaner, you have to deal with chipped paint, surface rust and more, you may want to consider either taking it to a local sandblasting company, or doing it yourself with a mini sandblaster.
I won't go into detail here, as to how to do the sandblasting, as it's covered in detail in the small sandblaster section, but that's the route I chose with this piece. The surface you get after sandblasting is slightly porous, from the high pressure sand hitting the metal and depending on your next step, may be all you need to skip to the paint prep stage.
Once I had the surface as close as I could get with my sandblaster, I switched to a small sanding block and grit sandpaper. Here's what the air cleaner restoration looked like after sandblasting and a quick sanding with grit sandpaper.

I'll sand it to the basic contours with an 80 grit paper on my sanding block and then cut it back again to a finer cut, with a grit paper on the block. I had my car at the Dearborn MI.
